Cue Lion King music here... |
The Lamp Family has landed in Africa! After weeks fo back-and-forth conversations and planning talks (seriously - I have Skyped with my mother more in the past month that I have all year), I picked my family up from OR Tambo last Friday. After spending a day in Joburg eating South African pizza and exploring the Apartheid Museum, the Lamp Family hit the road for Kruger Park! Kruger was a definite success! We went on four game drives and saw every member of the 'Big Five.' The 'Big Five' refers to the five animals deemed most dangerous to hunt. The members of the 'Five' are:
Elephants!
Water Buffalo (aka Cape Buffalo)!
Rhinos!
Lions!
and Leopards!
We actually saw three leopards (awesome considering they are the most elusive of the 'Five') and after watching a large male for about 15 minutes, we saw him kill a warthog! It was awesome - and Nick got a video:
In addition to the Big Five, we also saw some Zeebras!
Giraffes!
Hippos!
and Cheetahs!
There were even some out-of-control animals that jumped onto our safari vehicle...
Because my brothers never look at my blog, there is no way I'll get in trouble (read: physically injured) for posting this picture. |
Kruger was definitely a good start to our vacation. I enjoyed being with my family and contributing to the one-of-a-kind caustic/ sarcastic/ insulting sense of humor that we all love and share. Here's hoping the next two weeks are just as great!
